How TeleVet Works: Common Questions Answered

We’ve answered the most common questions about how our service works.

How long does a TeleVet consultation last?
Each TeleVet consultation is scheduled for 20 minutes. After your appointment, you’ll receive a simple written recap by email that summarizes the discussion and includes practical advice for your pet.
A TeleVet consultation is available for a one-time fee of £21.99 GBP. This includes a 20-minute video call with an experienced veterinarian, plus a follow-up summary sent to your email after the appointment.
When booking your appointment, you’ll have the option to upload photos or videos of your pet directly through the form. If you’d like to share more images or videos later, you can also send them during your consultation using the chat feature.
Preparing is easy. You’ll need a device with Zoom installed — this can be your phone, tablet, or computer. If you don’t already have it, you can download Zoom for free at zoom.us/download . For the smoothest experience, join the call from a quiet place without too much background noise. You’re welcome to have your pet with you during part or all of the consultation, and depending on the issue, the vet may ask to see your pet on camera.
Yes, you’re welcome to join with audio only if that feels more comfortable. However, having your camera on can be useful if your pet is with you, since it allows the vet to see them and give the most helpful advice.
In your consultation, the vet will first review the details you provided when booking. They’ll ask a few clarifying questions, listen to your concerns, and then share advice to help you understand your pet’s situation. You’ll also receive guidance on practical steps you can take and when an in-clinic visit might be helpful.
No, unfortunately not. TeleVet.uk consultations do not create a VCPR (Veterinary Client–Patient Relationship), so we’re unable to prescribe medication. What we can do is help you understand whether medication might be needed, explain what tests an in-clinic vet may recommend before prescribing, and give you an idea of potential costs. If needed, we’ll also guide you toward seeking care from a local veterinarian who can provide prescriptions.
TeleVet consultations are a great choice for advice on your pet’s health, behavior, nutrition, training, or general concerns. Our vets can provide peace of mind, practical guidance, and useful tips to help keep your pet happy and healthy. That said, an online consultation is not a replacement for an in-person exam. If your pet is facing an emergency or a serious medical issue, please contact a local veterinarian right away.
No you don’t need to share your pet’s medical records to book a TeleVet consultation. Any background details you provide are always helpful, but not required. Our vets can guide you during the call based on the information you share in real time.
Our vets can’t perform physical exams, make official diagnoses, or prescribe medication. What they can do is offer trusted advice, answer your questions, and guide you with practical tips for your pet’s health, nutrition, behavior, and non-urgent concerns.
We love meeting the whole family! To make sure each pet receives the individual care and attention they deserve, please book a separate consultation for each one. This ensures our vets have enough time to focus on every pet’s unique needs.
Yes. Consultations are recorded for quality and training purposes, and so our vets can review your pet’s history if needed. This helps us provide you with accurate advice and consistent support, even after your call.

Get the Right Advice for Your Pet

Choose a consultation designed specifically for your pet’s needs:

Please visit your in-person vet hospital if you need a prescription or if your pet is showing any of these signs:

  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop
  • A bloated or swollen abdomen
  • Collapse or sudden weakness
  • Inability to urinate
  • Rapid, labored, or shallow breathing
  • Seizures
  • Severe pain or trauma
  • Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness

This list isn’t exhaustive. If you ever suspect an emergency, the safest option is to have your pet seen in person right away.
